Behind the Name

Behind the name: Bar-None byDesign

Behind the Name: Bar-None byDesign

Every name carries echoes. Some are inherited, some chosen, some carefully engineered like architecture rising out of a city skyline. My own brand – Bar-None byDesign – is one of those skyscrapers built from the bricks of identity, history, and craft.

It starts with initials

My full name condenses into three letters: B.A.R. That coincidence alone could have been enough, but names aren’t just chance – they’re anchors. The initials gave me a foundation.

Then there’s the word “Bar”

For many, it means nightlife, neon, and drinks. For me, it’s the opposite. I haven’t stepped into a bar since college. In that way, “Bar-None” became personal shorthand: no bars, no alcohol, no exceptions. But language is slippery – it also carries its true idiomatic force: “the best, without exception.” And that became my creative mantra.

Finally, there’s “byDesign”

I trained in advertising and graphic design, cutting my teeth on Adobe tools like InDesign. But beyond software, design is how I see the world. To say something is “by design” is to say it wasn’t an accident. It was intentional. Thought. Craft. Care. That’s how I work. That’s how I build.

Put it all together, and you get a brand that isn’t just a label – it’s a story. Bar-None byDesign isn’t a slogan, it’s my DNA in type.

Why share this?

Because your brand – whether a business, a side hustle, or just the name you carry – has a story too. Hidden inside initials, hobbies, personal choices, or chance encounters is the scaffolding for meaning.

Excavate it. Celebrate it. Share it. Because when people see not just what you do, but why your name exists the way it does, you stop being a commodity. You become memorable. Human. Distinct.

This is my origin story framed like a city skyline – solid foundation, layered levels, and a rooftop view where I invite you to climb your own tower(s) of identity.
